I don’t know if anyone still follows this, but a lot has happened over the past year, and I’m looking to get it out… and avoid studying for finals.

Let’s start with Pricilla. She is amazing, and I love her, but I hate her. She is one of the most beautiful horses that I have ridden, and has so much talent, but just doesn’t want it. Actually, that’s not true, she does want it, but the second she doesn’t she’s done. I took her to several competitions and FINALLY made it around a Prelim with 3 stops, coming in 3 minutes slow, and then my trainer took her to a show to do the finishing touches. She did amazing in dressage, and made it almost all the way around cross country until Pricilla decided she was done while in the middle of the field. After that, she went straight home and now is 10 months pregnant with hopefully a future superstar. Next came Gryffin.

Gryffindor is a lovely horse, but he has his quirks. Unfortunately, with my low confidence- after Pricilla- I struggled with him. I was nervous, aggressive, and on the defense, and he couldn’t really handle it. We did several competitions and then traveled to Montana for Rebecca Farms, but we were eliminated on the coffin, and he too went home. After that, I started my search for an animal that I could figure out and instill confidence in, while hopefully boosting my own. This search landed me a 6 year old Hanoverian Thoroughbred named Daleno.

Though Daleno may not have started off as eye candy, he has grown into himself over the past 9 months. He has potential, but it has been a struggle. It is really incredible how useful a half halt can be on a horse. It is apparently key to control or something- speed and steering included. We have our good days, but more often we have our bad ones. With that in mind, he is improving, and so am I. The photos above are from my first show on him, which was a Novice at Woodside in 2013. My next competition is Training at the May Woodside, and “I’m nervous” would be an understatement. Though I still lack confidence in myself, and the turbulent several months that I have had makes me unsure of Dale, I do think we can do this, and I know that I really need this show in order to motivate myself to keep pushing through.

I can do this, I have to do this, I want to do this, and I will.

Say hello to Pricilla, or- as the show world knows her- Quite Fetching. It really is fitting, seeing as she is probably the most beautiful horse that I’ve ever ridden, but it does come with a price. We’re a work in progress at the moment, attempting to unite as a team, and I really hope that we can be successful. I may call her names, like Prissy, Silly, or other less tasteful terms of endearment, but I love her, and you should too.

I feel like it’s appropriate that I’m the 400th reblog, but honestly, I have no idea how this happened… I’m honored haha… That’s a lot for me.
